Deputies ratify Beijing audiovisual copyright treaty

Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies on Wed. ratified the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances (2012) adopted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on 24 June 2012, which provides that performers have the exclusive right to authorize the direct or indirect reproduction of their performances in audio-visual formats, by any media or in any form.

The treaty further provides that performers shall enjoy the exclusive right to authorize the making available to the public of the original and copies of their performances in audiovisual form for sale or other transfer of ownership.
