Environment, Playa Dorada join to cut carbon emissions

Puerto Plata.- The Environment Ministry and the Playa Dorada Hotels and Condominiums Association on Tues. launched the project “Transforming the value chain of tourism in countries and small island developing states to accelerate resilience, efficient use of resources and reduce the level of carbon emissions.”

The project was announced as part of a three-day workshop at Puerto Plata’s Playa Dorada resort, in collaboration with the UN Environment Program. It aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve efficiency in the use of resources in the most striking links in the tourism sector’s value chain, such as lodging, food, beverages and meetings, and conferences events.

“Also transform will be the operations of the sector into operations that generate less carbon emissions and are carried out with an efficient use of resources, which requires an increase in sustainable consumption and production practices by companies and tourists and more coherent actions in the countries,” Environment said in a press release.
