Santo Domingo.- An outspoken business leader on Friday said that those who voice the notion that the Green March against corruption aims to destabilize president Danilo Medina’s government are mistaken, and warned that when the people spill onto the streets is because “things aren’t right.”
Herrera and Santo Domingo Province Industries Association (AEIH) president Antonio Taveras Guzman stressed that he took part in last Sunday’s Green March not as head of the AEIH, but as a citizen concerned about his country.
He said business leaders have never financed the Green rallies as stated by his colleagues Campos de Moya and Circe Almánzar,. “Those who’ve tried to pay for the movement have been rejected.” He noted however that, like the State, the business sector is committed to the Dominicans.
Democracy does not work
Interviewed by Salvador Holguín on Teleradio América Channel 45, Taveras said that when the ruling party (PLD) controls justice and/or Congress, “democracy does not work and the nation is unbalanced.”
He also reminded the PLD’s leaders that they are employees of the people, for which the power they hold isn’t to harm against the population but in favor of it. “The March is stronger every day and determined to fight against the corruption that prevails in the country.”
