Santo Domingo.- Several provinces will be affected by rainfall and high temperatures over the weekend, according to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet).

The rains will affect the provinces of La Altagracia (Higuey), El Seibo, La Romana, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), María Trinidad Sánchez (Nagua), Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí), Azua, Peravia (Baní), San José de Ocoa, Barahona, Bahoruco, San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo and the National District.

Onamet is monitoring two areas of storm activity, one located 720 km south of Cape Verde, with a 40% chance of reaching tropical cyclone category in the next 48 hours, and the second in the Caribbean sea with a 20% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours.

Due to the high temperatures, Onamet is advising members of the public to drink sufficient liquids, wear light clothing and avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours (11:00 am to 4:00 pm).

Maximum temperatures in the Greater Santo Domingo area will range from 31ºC to 33ºC with minimums of between 23ºC and 24ºC.
