Miches benefits from long weekends
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Tourism and Travel Agents Association (Adavit) president Ana Santelises, on Monday asked the Chamber of Deputies to strike the approved bill which halts the transfer of holidays to form long weekends.
She said the bill harms the tourism sector in general, and particularly the economies of the provinces which benefited from the thousands of visitors during long weekends, know locally as “bridges.”
“Travel agencies support in all its parts the National Hotels and Tourism Association’s position where they disapprove the Chamber of Deputies decision, corresponding to the non-mobility of the holidays,” she said.
Santelises said the measure affects tourism in general, including travel agencies and tour operators, tourist clusters, hotels, transporters, and the economy. “Since the urge to travel arising during this time of enjoyment of leisure product of mobility of internal tourism will cease to exist.”
In a press release, Adavit urges the lower Chamber, to discard the measure, “which is detrimental to the national tourism sector.”
