Scattered showers Fri.; tropical storm targets the Caribbean

Santo Domingo.- As a tropical storm expected to churn the southern Caribbean in the coming days, the downpours from a tropical wave drenching the Dominican Republic, which triggered flash flooding alerts for a large part of the country.

The of heavy rains prompted the Emergency Operations Center (COE) to issue alerts Thurs. for the eastern region and Greater Santo Domingo.

Although the tropical wave is expected to leave the forecast area Friday morning, the National Weather Office forecasts scattered showers over the southeast, border area and central mountains, from the prevailing east-southeast wind.

The COE issued warnings for possible flash flooding, landslides and swelled rivers and streams.
