Haiti, main market for Dominican plantains at US$4.6M

Santo Domingo.- Haiti’s population of 10.8 million was the main market for Dominican plantain exports last year, when sales topped US$4.6 million.

Citing data from the Dominican Republic Export and Investment Center (CEI- RD), the Agriculture Ministry said total exports were US$5.3 million.

It said Dominican plantain producers sold 8.7 million metric tons to Haitian consumers, at a cost of 4.6 million.

Agriculture added that St. Martin is the second biggest market for Dominican plantains, with more than 288,000 metric tons in 2015, at US$233,626.
