Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic civil aviation authorities have placed all the national airports on a high alert starting Monday, on concern over a potential landfall by Hurricane Maria, now at category 4.
Airports Dept. director Marino Collante said the measure aims to safeguard lives and property, including aircraft, in case the hurricane continues its current track towards the Caribbean and Dominican Republic.
He said the Airports Commission analyzes all the measures to be taken at all national airports, including the transfer of small aircraft to safer terminals, with hangar spacefor their protection and security. “We will establish measures and similar dispositions in our airports, or perhaps more than those we took during Hurricane Irma.”
