Official cites advances in eradication of poverty

Santo Domingo. – Economy minister Isidoro Santana said Wednesday that the Dominican Republic Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Commission advances in the eradication of poverty, environmental protection and gender equity, which meets the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.

During the presentation of the quarterly report of the Fourth High-Level Inter-Agency Meeting of the Commissions on Sustainable Development, Santana praised the Zero Hunger Initiative through the government’s social policy coordination cabinet.

He cited the National Consultation on Oceans, coordinated by the Environment Ministry, as one of the concrete initiatives to preserve the environment.

As coordinator, the official announced that the Dominican Republic will present the National Voluntary Report at the High Level Political Forum scheduled at the UN July 2018.

During the meeting Wednesday, the subcommittees of the National Statistics Office, and the ministries of Women and of the Environment released their quarterly report on the progress and challenges of ODS for 2018.

Present in the meeting were representatives of UNDP, Lorenzo Jiménez, and of the World Bank, Alessandro Legrottaglie, as well as delegates from other international NGOs and government officials.

The High Level Inter-Institutional Commission for Sustainable Development was commissioned to outline the route to enact the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, in keeping with the National Development Strategy.
