Dominican Republic goes Digital

Launch

Santo Domingo.- The government on Wed. night launched the program Digital Republic, which will offer new and better services with less red tape to the public.

Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo a catalog with 27 services will bring progress to the country in education, security and housing, among other areas.

In his speech for the event headed by president Danilo Medina in the National Palace, Montalvo said that as part of the program’s services, 55,000 laptops were purchased and will be delivered to the first 150 selected educational centers.

He said that around 290,000 people will be able to obtain the high school, “with just a click,” and that same number of citizens will be able to complete that process online per year.

In the health sector, Digital Republic also offers five services, including the Public Health Ministry’s Comprehensive Health Record with a first phase initiated with the records of 1,600 Primary Care units and in the areas of pediatrics of 10 hospitals nationwide.

Montalvo said seven public services are being put online for trade, including the availability of an app for the citizen to compare prices of household products, updated daily, with follow up on 197 products and 70 essential medicines.

“People will be able to compare prices in different establishments and calculate the expense before making the purchase; and something very important for our producers, is the automatic renewal of the health registry,” the official said.
