Environment issues 171 permits for timber lands

Santo Domingo.-  The Environment Ministry on Sat. handed out 171 certificates to owners of lumber lands with the right to lumber, in various provinces across the country.

It said the certificates seek to help owners of timberlands market the lumber to sawmills, for fence posts, power line poles and biomass.

In a statement Environment minister Francisco Dominguez said the measure benefits dozens of producers with guidelines and regulations to work the timber, selecting the varieties to be planted and to prepare the sites.

“They will also be oriented with the intermediate cuts; culling to improve the quality of the wood and of their potential the benefits,” the official said.
