Medina says govt. will restore Columbus-era town

Puerto Plata.- President Danilo Medina on Sun. ordered a plan to improve the road grid in the historic park La Isabela, starting with the conservation of its monument.

After a surprise visit Medina said he’s committed to the recovery of the legendary community founded by Christopher Columbus, where the inhabitants have awaited the construction of various works for decades.

He said he wanted to see for himself the historical site’s real conditions prior to a project to preserve and restore its monuments. He said the community will involve to achieve sustainable development.

Medina said the project will count with the concerted action between the public and private sectors, for greater commitment and participation.
