Santo Domingo.- Water, wind and sun combined to provide 11.56% of the power generated in the country last year, the National Statistics Office (ONE) revealed Wed.
“Water, wind and solar contributed to the volumes of electricity generated in the Dominican Republic via renewable resources, of which water had the highest contribution, with 9.44,” said ONE director Alexandra Izquierdo.
She said the generation of electricity through renewable resources, especially water, posted a growth of 60.63% compared to 2015, followed by wind with a growth of 10.16% over the previous year.
“It should be noted that in June 2016 Monte Plata Solar was added with a contribution of 23.4 (Gwh), which led to a further diversified Dominican energy matrix, and this is due to the country’s great interest in developing the production of this type of energy.”
