Santo Domingo.- Immigration Máximo Muñoz on Monday said 555 undocumented Haitians were arrested during raids on Saturday and Sunday in Puerto Plata, Sosua, Imbert and Montellano, among other north region towns.

He said the sweeps will continue in the next few hours, in other communities and tourist towns, including Boca Chica, Guayacanes and Juan Dolio.

“In the operations where the 555 illegal Haitians were arrested in Puerto Plata and Sosúa, Immigration inspectors had the support of the Air Force and the Justice Ministry. The places where the operations were carried out were intervened for eight hours,” he said.

In a statement, the official said all foreigners were transferred to the border post at Dajabón and handed over to Haitian authorities. “The returnees, men and women of different ages, were treated humanely.”
