File.- To put the brakes on drunk driving by motorists, random breathalyzer test will be conducted at strategic roadblocks in the capital starting the first quarter of 2018, National Transport Institute (Intrant) director Claudia F. de los Santos affirmed Mon.
The official made the announcement after receiving a donation of eight breathalyzers and 32 screening breathalyzers from the International Alliance for Responsible Consumption (IARD) and the Regional Local Liquor Industry, which will be used for the tests.
She said prior to operating the system, Metropolitan Transit Authority (AMET) officers and the Traffic Safety and Land Transport Agency (Digesett), in charge of the tests, will be trained by experts, to use the equipment correctly.
She added that to charge the drunk drivers, the speed and their recklessness will be taken into account. “The idea of this donation is to begin the process of alcohol assessments that Law 63-17 stipulates.”
