A giant yuck: Agriculture says African snail under control

Santo Domingo.-  Agriculture minister, Ángel Estévez on Tues. said the giant African snail discovered in the east region last year is under control.

The official denied that the snail has spread in the area, as denounced by National Agricultural Professionals Association (ANPA), secretary Danilo Severino.

Estévez said Agriculture, Public Health and Environment have been enacting a protocol for a year, to eradicate it, and that’s why they’ve kept the snail controlled to a small area of the East.

He said they also work jointly with the communities and the Tourism Ministry, to guarantee control of the snail, which can carry diseases  and damages crops like papaya, beans, okra, coffee and orchids.
