Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- Hundreds of Haitians were left stranded Mon. at the “Expreso Liniero” bus station city, when the drivers refused to mount them, alleging repression by the Army.
FERUTRACON union drivers said the Army impounded around 10 buses being held in a military post at nearby Mao (northwest).
They said the Haitians have their papers in order, and called the measure “an abuse.”
They said they don’t know who has the authority over the measure, whether Immigration or the military.
Union representatives from several northwest provinces have voiced similar complaints.
They said that after Immigration inspectors check the foreigners at the border crossings, the military then retain the vehicles at area checkpoints in, and take them to the Army post at Mao.
