Santo Domingo.- More than 100 Dominicans have been living in Chile in deplorable conditions for over seven months in makeshift camps, where there’s no supply of drinking water and in the middle of a dump, in La Colina, Riviera Sur.
Chilean television reports that most of the Dominicans are women, who work as nannies, and many are subject to discrimination because of their color.
Chile channel 13 reports that amid the gastronomy and bachata and merengue rhythms, Dominicans live near the town Los Aromos, “one of the most dangerous areas of Santiago.”
Dominican Sara Diaz, who came to try her luck in Chile, said the Chilean women, in whose homes she has worked, “don’t like for us to talk so that their children don’t pick up the accent of another country.”
