Santo Domingo.- The Dominican commission that mediates in the talks to resolve Venezuela’s crisis were left waiting for that country’s government and opposition representatives to arrive, despite having agreed last week to sign the agreement on Mon.
After a long wait by local and foreign media at the Dominican Foreign Ministry since early morning, its spokesman Hugo Beras last night revealed that they’ve yet to receive confirmation that they would travel to Santo Domingo. “We have been ready, here in the Dominican Republic waiting for the confirmation from the parties.”
As we have not had the confirmation of their arrival in the Dominican Republic, we have not been able to make any kind of statement,” said Beras.
He said as soon as precise information is received as to when the talks will resume, they will make it known.
“We in the Dominican Republic are ready,” the official said, but didn’t say why the parts were no-shows.
As mediators figure Dominican president Danilo Medina, former Spanish prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and delegates from Chile, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
