Pedernales, Dominican Republic.- The southwestern town of Pedernales returned to normal on Wed. after a tense Tuesday when dozens of Haitians were forced to leave within a 24-hour “deadline” issued by residents
The binational market is still suspended and the Haitian nationals have left the town, even returned to their county, local media report.
The elite troops continue patrols assisted by drones over the entire border area.
After an inter-agency meeting yesterday, the authorities said theyll officially request the handover of one of the Haitians, detained in their country , charged with the murder of the spouses Julio Reyes and Neiba Féliz.
The murders sparked outrage in the border town, halting cross-border trade with Haitian buyers that cross into Pedernales daily.
