Santo Domingo .- Presidency Administrative minister José Ramón Peralta, on Wed. met with executives the Call Centers and Business Process Outsourcing Commission (BPO) to discuss the advances, investments and plans for the next five years , which can create 60,000 jobs in the medium and long terms.
After the meeting the business leaders held a press conference at the National Palace, where Commission coordinator Giacomo Traverso said that last year this activity injected RD$1.48 billion (US$29.6 million) into the national economy for payments for basic services, electricity, training at the Technical-Vocational Training Institute (Infotep ), social security and communication.
He said call center companies in free zones currently employ over 20,000 people directly, with salaries well above the national average, “contributing to improve the quality of life of many families.”
Traverso added that the base monthly salaries of those employees range from 25,000 to 28,000 pesos, or up to 200% higher than what 72% of salaried employees earn, according to National Treasury data quoted in the press conference.
