Canada is the country’s 2nd biggest tourist source: envoy

Santo Domingo.- Canada ambassador Shauna Hemingway on Mon. stressed Dominican Republic’s importance as a trade partner and stated Ottawa’s willingness to increase multilateral collaboration that contributes to improve living conditions, especially for depressed communities.

The diplomat said Canada is Dominican Republic’s second biggest source of tourists, with 837,721 last year alone, on 80 weekly flights.

She said Canada participates with local organizations in projects on environment, security, inclusion, diversity and human challenges “that seek to promote a more prosperous and just life, where we can all enjoy a life of quality and a more sustainable world.”

The diplomat spoke in the conference “Canada and the Dominican Republic, towards a more inclusive, prosperous and sustainable world,” hosted by the Santo Domingo Herrera Rotary Club.
