Dominican Republic to host more than 20 international conclaves

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic will host more than 20 international commitments from 2016 to 2017, including three summits of foreign ministers and heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC-EU) and the 46th Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly, events which the Foreign Minister called unprecedented to bolster international relations.

In a meeting with media executives on Thursday Andrés Navarro said the country will assume the CELAC revolving presidency starting January. "We can predict it will be a bright year in bilateral and multilateral external relations for the Dominican Republic, and a repositioning of the nation´s image to a probably historical level at the most important entities of regional and sub-regional geo-political decisions."

"The media can contribute to the great task ahead for the nation as a whole, and only with the integration of each sector can we ensure the resounding success of these international events," Navarro said in a press release.

The official, in a workshop with the editors-in-chief of most major newspapers, said for the over 20 international activities to succeed, he also expects the support of the various municipal, provincial and central government agencies, business leaders, universities and civil society.
