Nelson Suárez: mass deportations in the U.S. could impact Dominican economy

Santo Domingo.- The economic policies of former U.S. President Donald Trump, including proposed high tariffs on nations like China, Mexico, Canada, and the EU, raised concerns for Latin America, particularly the Dominican Republic. Economist Nelson Suárez highlighted the potential risks, noting that approximately 2.4 million Dominicans—22% of the population—reside in the U.S., with their remittances contributing 8% of the country’s GDP, rivaling the economic impact of tourism.

According to RC Noticias, Suárez warned that stricter immigration policies and mass deportations could severely affect undocumented Dominicans in the U.S., many of whom overstay tourist visas. He emphasized the uncertainty surrounding the number of Dominicans at risk, urging the government to prioritize this issue and collect accurate data.

Additionally, Suárez advised Dominican authorities to maintain neutrality in international relations, avoiding alignment with specific ideological positions until the full impact of U.S. policies becomes clear. He stressed that potential disruptions to remittances and migration could jeopardize the country’s economic stability.

Praying that does not happen, some fools always ready to talk about Haitians but when it is Dominican citizens that are at risk being deported they are no where to be found. What goes around comes around. I will never speak ill of Dominican citizens because they are my fellow brothers and sisters. Please stop demonizing Haitians.

This article is BS. If any Dominican citizen resides in the US without proper documentation, then they have the right to be deported just as we do with the massive number of illegal Haitian migrants in our country. Let’s not be hypocrites. All nations’ borders and migratory laws need to be respected and upheld including our own.

The neutrality suggestion by the author is most welcomed…

Lets hope that the USA starts the mass deportations immediately. Cancel birthrite citizenship and back date it to 1929, just like the dominican republic. How does 15000 a month sound?, familiar?. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander, god bless Donald Trump
