AMCHAMDR explores Dominican Republic’s business prospects in light of new global trends

Santo Domingo.- The American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) hosted a conference titled “Dominican Republic in Perspective: Local Opportunities and Their Global Impact,” bringing together national and international experts to discuss the country’s business opportunities amid shifting geopolitical trends under the Donald Trump administration.

Edwin de los Santos, president of AMCHAM, highlighted key challenges facing the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, particularly regarding Haiti, political polarization in Latin America, and regional divisions. He noted that Haiti remains an uncertain but historically important trade partner, while Latin America’s fragmented political landscape complicates efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States.

Meanwhile, Carlos Camilo, president of AMCHAMDR’s Economic Committee, expressed concerns about the Dominican Republic’s electricity sector, calling it a major national issue affecting public finances, investment, productivity, and economic stability. He urged business leaders to prioritize innovation, education, and inclusive growth to build a stronger economy for the future.
