AES Dominicana, Microsoft join to train the most needy
Santo Domingo.- The foundation Trust for the Americas, affiliated to the Organization of American States (OAS) today announced the opening of a POETA center, with opportunities for training and jobs for Santo Domingo youth in risk situation, with the support of the AES Corporation and Microsoft Corporation.
Helped by the National Agrarian and Social Training Institute (INFAS), the project will provide professional training to the young people, using an innovating curriculum designed by AES, Microsoft, for Trust the Americas, and INFAS, AES said in an emailed statement. “In the first training year, INFAS and AES personnel expect to train 240 youngsters, providing them with tools for their success in the Dominican labor market.”
It said the POETA, AES and INFAS center in Santo Domingo will give community members access and training in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (TIC), with teaching modules in self-employment aimed at their technical training in topics related to electricity generation and in the transport and use of natural gas. “The training will feature technical advice by expert personnel , AES Dominicana, Dominican Republic’s affiliate of the AES Corporation, which will technically train instructors under that organization standards.”
“Education is one of the company’s strategic areas in which we, through the AES Dominicana Foundation, must contribute and as part of the commitment to improve the quality of life of all Dominicans,” said AES Dominicana vice president for Corporate Communication, German Toro Ghio.
“With POETA we aim to continue strengthening our support for Dominican youngsters, giving them the opportunity to participate in a specialized technical training program which significantly will contribute in their insertion to the labor market”.
For his part, Esperidón Villa, INFAS director for the program thanked AES Dominicana and Microsoft for their contribution. “With this help, INFAS will count on the technological and material means to innovate and expand our capacities to continue generating possibilities of decent jobs and a dignified life for those most in need.”
