RD$12.9m from Quirino’s assets donated to charities

Santo Domingo.- The NationalDrugs Council (CND) has donated the sum of RD$12,934,000 to 12 institutions.The funds decommissioned from money laundering assets confiscated from formerDominican army captain Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo, currently in jail in the US for drugtrafficking. The assets were sold at a public auction and deposited in a Banco deReservas account.

The beneficiaries include Hogar Crea Internacional, Mesón de Dios, FundaciónFénix, Casa Abierta, Reto a la Juventud, Niños del Camino and MinisterioEvangelístico Juan 3:16.

Mabel Féliz, president of the CND, said that this was the twelfth time thatthese institutions have received funds since June 2007 and that a total of RD$255,412,000has been donated.

She added that 28 luxury watches that were impounded in the José DavidFigueroa Agosto case would be auctioned in January.
