100 kg cocaine haul in San Cristobal

Santo Domingo.- The National DrugControl Department (DNCD) confiscated 100 kilograms of cocaine seized in San Cristóbal on Wednesday. The consignment isbelieved to belong to drug trafficking gangs operating in the south westerncity and in the National District with the purpose of sending drugs to PuertoRico.

DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebrón saidthat at present they have one person in custody, who is being questioned.

According to the DNCD report, theindividuals who were transporting the drugs in an SUV were able to escape underprotection of darkness, abandoning the vehicle.

The drugs were being transported inthe trunk of the gray colored SUV, with four sacks with 25 and 19 packages,which have been taken to the DNCD central headquarters and then to the forensiclaboratory for testing. The cocaine was brought in from Haiti.

DNCD president Major General RolandoRosado Mateo said that the drugs were detected following a surveillanceoperation of several individuals.
