Dominicans can now vote abroad

Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies approved the vote by Dominicans abroad to elect the President, the Vice president and several deputies, turning the bill into law since it had already passed in the Senate.

Last week the Electoral Board (JCE) judges went the to Congress to request the bill?s urgent approval, noting the pressure to organize the entire process leading to the election slated for May next year.

The Law stipulates that the Dominicans will be able to vote in the 2012 presidential elections and for seven overseas deputies, with two representatives in the Caribbean basin and Latin America; three in the United States and Canada, and two in Europe.

It also stipulates that the JCE will register the Dominicans residing abroad so they can exert the right to vote.
