Money launderers covet real estate, Chief Justice warns

Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court (SCJ) president Jorge Subero Monday called money laundering from drug trafficking the greatest threat to Dominican Republic’s real estate property.

He said the situation takes place as drug trafficking permeates all structures in our societies worldwide. “It’s an increasingly lurking danger and a very coveted fruit for the whitening and laundering is real estate property.”

He said the Real Estate Jurisdiction and other agencies must remain on the alert, noting that although those types of cases haven’t increased, “the practice is perceived in the atmosphere.”

Latin American event

Subero spoke after inaugurating the XXIV Encounter of the Latin American Committee of Registry Consultation, being held in the hotel Embajador until Friday, with representatives attending from Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, Haiti, Mexico, Panama and Paraguay.
