More arrests, one fugitive in journalist’s murder

Santo Domingo. – Four men are under arrest and two still at large in connection with the kidnapping and murder of the journalist Jose Silvestre in eastern La Romana last week, while investigators yesterday confirmed that the businessman Matías Avelino Castro, “Daniel”, who also goes by the name Joaquin Espinal Almeyda, paid for the execution, and is still at large.

Angel Amed Mañón Gutiérrez (driver), who allegedly confessed to the murder; Dennis Junior Serrano (Presion), Franklin Lugo Mejía and the manager of Javi rental-car Rafael Antonio Fulgencio Lan are under arrest, while Uldárico Diaz Cruz, half brother of former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Jose Rijo, is being questioned, and according to deputy prosecutor Frank Soto maintained communication with the fugitive.

Newspaper El Dia yesterday revealed that Silvestre, in the 143rd edition of his magazine “La Voz de la Verdad” (Voice of the Truth), accused the merchant Ramon Antonio Herrera (Momón) of a recent murder in La Romana.

The Police also revealed that three speedboats and one yatch have been seized from Castro as part of the investigation.
