Three power plants go offline, affect thousands of customers

Santo Domingo.- The State-owned Power Companies Wednesday announced the outage of three generating plants on technical failures and midterm repairs.

The generating facilities Itabo 1, of 100 megawatts, came offline on a leak in its boiler yesterday morning.

The CDEE said the power company AES Dominicana affirmed that the problem will be solved early today.

Also off line was Los Mina VI, of 105 MW, also shut down for midterm repair on its smokestack and one of its generating units. It’s expected to resume operations no later than 11 March.

The third power plant, San Felipe, in Puerto Plata, sustained a technical failure.

The outages affected 316,000 customers in Santo Domingo province, National District and other southern cities.
