Poll: Dominican Republic opposition presidential candidate has narrow lead

SANTO DOMINGO.– The battle pitting opposition PRD party candidate Hipólito Mejía and the ruling PLD ticket headed by Danilo Medina is still too close to call, just two months to the May 20 elections, according to a newspaper Diario Libre-Greenberg poll disclosed 11:55pm Sunday.

Though the survey gives Mejía a three-point edge over Medina, or 49 percent to 46%, among those most inclined to vote, or 72 percent of the registered voters, the race is head to head, with 49 percent for each candidate.

The survey conducted from March 17 to 22 polled 1,003 eligible voters, with a margin of error of from 3.1 to 3.7%, and a level of confidence of 95%.
