Civic group says Fernandez is politicking with inaugurals

Santo Domingo.- The civic group Citizen Participation (PC) on Tuesday said president Leonel Fernandez’s stepped up pace on ribbon cutting for public works boosts the ruling party’s electoral campaign.
In its report on electoral observation, PC called the practice unfair and contrary to precepts in the Constitution. “The inaugural of public works doesn’t represent a violation of fairness, it’s the electoral activities carried out within them.”
The report by the PC, which gets partial funding from the USAID, was read by PC executive Francisco Alvarez, who reiterated that Fernandez takes advantage of those activities to conduct an electoral campaign
He said that’s the reason why a proposed bill to create the Electoral Statutory Law, with the support of the Organization of American States, bans the inaugural of works in a timeframe prior to the elections.
