Senior Dominican Government official slams Washington

Santo Domingo.- The senior leader and co-founder of the ruling PLD party Euclídes Gutierrez Feliz on Wednesday slammed the civic movement Citizen Participation (PC) and the United States, for their actions in the current process prior to the presidential election.

Gutierrez, who’s also Superintendent of Insurance, questioned PC’s independence to observe the elections on May 20, affirming that Washington has the “same thing” already operating in the country. “Those who think that we have sovereignty are dreaming, just look at Citizen Participation, they want to observe our elections, why? The OAS is going to do it, they are the same thing, a political party of Washington. They are controlled by the United States.”

“Who is PC, they are part of the department of calumny of the U.S., funded by USAID (US Agency for International Development),” the official and prominent attorney said.

Interviewed by Cesar Medina on Colorvision, Gutierrez noted that he and PC have had prior run-ins, and cited an accusation that he had stolen the money to build his house in the sector Manoguayabo. ”They called me a thief, that I stole the money to build my house, you, (Medina are one of six witnesses, which include Pepin (Corripio), who will testify in my case because all of you had visited me before I became an official of the Government.”

The veteran politician called PC “people who are social escalators, without any political background.”

Bill and Hillary Clinton

The writer and historian also criticized the role played in Haiti by former U.S. president Bill Clinton and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “On this side of the island we have a President, who is Leonel Fernandez, but on the others side it’s the Clintons, Hillary and Bill, he’s the president of Haiti with an investment of 70 million dollars in the Haiti telecom.”
