Ruling party closes campaign, opposition’s turn Friday
SANTO DOMINGO. – President Leonel Fernandez, Dominican Republic’s ruling PLD party candidates Danilo Medina and Margarita Cedeño and political allies headed a motorcade-rally which began 4pm Friday, to close the campaign for Sunday’s elections
The banner-waving throng wound it’s way from the capital’s northern slums south to the Colonial Zone, to conclude 7pm at the seaside avenue El Malecon.
Senior PLD leaders and lawmakers also took part in the miles-long march, which ended with concerts by popular bands at the Caribbean shoreline.
Opposition ORD party presidential candidate Hipolito Mejia’s rally to close his campaign is slated for the same route and the same time.
