Ruling party also unleashes witch hunt, but in the U.S.

NEW YORK.- While the opposition PRD party back in Dominican Republic aims to root out the “traitors” responsible for its defeat in the May 20 polls, the ruling PLD also unleashes its witch hunt, but in the U.S., where “heads will roll” for losing the elections for Overseas deputies.

Senior PLD leader and Overseas minister Eduardo Selman will head a meeting aimed at seeking the ouster many PLD colleagues accused of being “treasonous.”

The tense atmosphere began several weeks before the elections, when the candidates to Overseas deputies started to notice a lack of effort by alleged supporters of their campaigns, prompting ex general consul and candidate Francisco Fernandez to denounce the “treason.”

Among the “traitors” figure several officials with important posts in the UN, the OAS and the in New York General Consulate.

The “treason” reportedly spread to several states of the U.S. electoral region #1, in which the PLD’s candidates to Overseas congressional seats suffered a sweep at the hands of the PRD, and the worse showing of the last three overseas elections.
