Pop star gets 3 months in jail on repeated battery charges

Santo Domingo.-A National District judge sent urban music star Antonio Piter de la Rosa (Omega) to spend three months in the San Pedro de Macoris (east) jail, to await trial on charges of repeated battery of a woman.
Judge Alejandro Vargas also ordered the detention of the complainant Yuly Lopez for alleged perjury under oath in her statements at the hearing.
National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso had called the merengue singer a repeat offender whose psychological profile reveals a self-destructive way of life, and justifies his detention in a correctional facility and rehabilitation. She said the artist’s behavior was that of a potential femicide.
The warrant for Lopez’s arrest was issued after she testified that the alleged assault took place and despite the judge’s warning against perjuring herself, opted to slip away during a recess.
