Ex president challenges ruling on alleged link to drug cartel

Santo Domingo.- Ex president Hipolito Mejia’s attorneys filed a challenge Monday morning against Supreme Court ruling 44-2012, which appoints Frank Soto to decide on the validity of the slander charges filed against senator Wilton Guerrero and El Caribe media group director Osvaldo Santana.
Mejia claims that Article 13 of the Supreme Court’s Statutory Law stipulates that it’s up to the full court to hear all constitutional issues and other obligations consigned in the Constitution.
The challenged filed by Julio Cury and Jesus Feliz requests that Supreme Court Chief Justice Mariano German convenes the entire Court to hear the lawsuit against Guerrero and Santana filed July 12.
After the May 20 presidential election, Guerrero accused Mejia of traveling to Sinaloa, Mexico, to raise funds for his campaign, flying on a plane allegedly piloted by a member of that region’s drug cartel.
