Opposition leaders hold surprise meeting, a setback for ex President

Santo Domingo.- At the end of the first public meeting between opposition PRD party president Miguel Vargas, and general secretary Orlando Jorge since the May 20 election, they both agreed on a common goal of promoting the political organization.

Jorge said the meeting shouldn’t be seen "as a backward glance, because what’s most important is to look forward."

Vargas said he felt proud working the agenda with the PRD General Secretary, describing him as his friend.

The surprise meeting between Vargas and Jorge signals a setback for the PRD faction headed by ex president Hipólito Mejía, because the PRD general secretary had supported him since their electoral defeat.
