Lawmakers must deal with colleague convicted of statutory rape
Santo Domingo.- Chamber of Deputies president Abel Martinez on Wednesday said the only point to debate in today’s session will be the case of the deputy Ramon Fernandez, convicted of "abduction" of a minor.
Martinez asked the Chamber’s Disciplinary Board to render a report on the case of opposition PRD party deputy, and recommended they explain the situation to the legislator today, to determine the measure applicable.
He said said they’ll proceed in compliance with the Constitution and Chamber rules, noting that they’ll not interfere with the exercise of justice.
In that regard the lower Chamber sent a letter to Justice minister Francisco Dominguez Brito to complain against the entry of an Assistant DA and agents in Congress, seeking to arrest the Fernandez, whose conviction on statutory raped was upheld by the Supreme Court.
