Dominicans head home for Christmas

Santo Domingo.- Since Friday thecity’s bus terminals have been packed with passengers heading for theirhometowns for Christmas, many carrying gifts for their relatives in theprovinces.
Long lines were observed in bus stationslike Caribe Tours, the Km 9 stop on the Duarte highway for travelers heading north, and the terminal on Duarte avenuewith 27 de Febrero, where buses depart for Barahona, San Juan de la Maguana,Azua, Pedernales, San Cristóbal, Peravia, Tamayo, Jaquimeyes, Paraíso and SanJosé de Ocoa.
However bus drivers expressed theirdisappointment at the relatively low volume of traffic, saying that Christmas2012 has seen fewer passengers compared to previous years.
The Technical Land Transport Office(OTTT) is controlling and checking the interurban transport vehicles to ensureoptimal conditions of safety during the holiday season. OTTT director Héctor Mojica,said that this preventive campaign consisted of careful checks of the vehiclesto ensure they meet the necessary conditions for traveling on the roads andtransporting passengers.
