Authorities extradite two wanted in the U.S. charged with rape, fraud

Santo Domingo.- Dominican authorities Thursday night extradited two men wanted in New York on 12 counts of rape, fraud and theft, the National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD ) revealed Frida.

Alvin Cesar Carmona is accused of assaulting and raping the U.S. citizen Kathleen McHugh in May 2009, whereas Melvin Antonio Duarte is charged with grand larceny and mail fraud, a federal offense.

Both men, who were being held at the DNCD compound, were escorted to Las Americas International Airport (AILA) and placed aboard Delta Airlines Flight 488, bound for New York City, said Agency spokesman Roberto Lebron in a statement to the media.

The Supreme Court had separately authorized the handover to the U.S., of the defendants, natives of San Pedro and San Francisco.
