Proposal to transfer control of antinarcotics Agency “absurd”

Santo Domingo,- Two prominent figures on Wednesday rebuked the proposal to transfer control of the antinarcotics agency (DNCD), from the Presidency to the Justice Ministry .

Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez called “inappropriate,” Justice minister Francisco Dominguez’s proposal. "Things should be left as they are."

He said the proposal undoubtedly results from some sectors, excluding Dominguez, reacting to the DNCD’s "severe blows" against drug trafficking.

"It’s possible that the figure of general Rosado (DNCD chief Rolando Rosado) is bothering some there, I repeat, I am not referring to the Justice Minister, who’s a person that I consider a lot and we are great friends, but I know that there are people outside the Agency’s surroundings, who don’t sympathize with Rosado management, who is giving hard blows," Lopez said.

"Absurd" proposal

For his part, the President’s Antinarcotics adviser Marino Vinicio Castillo (Vincho) called the proposal "absurd and senseless" affirming that the Justice Ministry should only legally supervise the DNCD’s investigations.
