Environmentalist-attorney will help prosecute Bahia de las Aguilas case

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Dominguez on Friday announced the designation of the attorney and environmentalist Laura Acosta, to advise on the process to void the fraudulently-obtained titles of Bahía de las Aguilas. Also appointed was the attorneys Roger A. Vittini
The official said Acosta will also work with the National District Attorney’s Office in the pending criminal proceedings.
Dominguez said both lawyers are recognized for their morals and have played an extraordinary role defending the national assets, and will provide their services pro-bono. "The Justice Ministry appreciates their effort and generosity to expedite this case and thus allow the depressed, but rich area to develop, for the people living there."
The Supreme Court scheduled for next Monday the first hearing on the Bahia de las Aguilas scandal, the country’s biggest ever land fraud case.
Acosta is the daughter of the late former freedom fighter Picky Lora, who was head of the Land Court when the scandal broke in 1997, and who confronted the promoters of the fraud.
She has also been one of the spearheds for the push to protect Bahia de las Aguilas, and the Jaragua National Park which surrounds it.
