Dominican media abuzz with the president’s public safety plan

Santo Domingo. – Dominican Republic’s online media are abuzz with expectation awaiting president Danilo Medina’s National Citizen Safety Plan, a project touted from the very day his tenure began last August 16.

Medina’s ??a speech is slated for 5pm from the National Palace, where he’s also expected to provide details on the proposed police reform, said Interior and Police minister Jose Ramon Fadul, but didn’t specify what the president might say.

The official said after Medina’s announcement of, the Government will explain the programs’ breath and scope through the media in detail. "We expect this plan will fulfill the expectations and will demonstrate the effectiveness of the measures in practice and whether to rectify, at some point, because this is not only a government plan since it aims to involve all sectors of national life."

Fadul noted that public safety is an issue which befalls on all Dominicans so the media and civil society are expected to play their role as well.
