To steal, officials say they’re worth more: Anticorruption group

Santo Domingo. – Dominican Anticorruption Alliance (Adocco) president Julio Cesar de la Rosa on Wednesday warned that some government officials declare more wealth than they actually possess, to then to amass money fruit of their corruption.
De la Rosa asked Congress to pass the proposed Asset Disclosure and Illicit Enrichment Law, drafted by senators Charlie Mariotti and Julio Cesar Valentin, calling it an effective instrument to fight Dominican Government corruption. "This law will prevent officials from declaring what they don’t have or what they aspire to get into public office."
Interviewed on Telesistema by Huchi Lora and Patricia Solano, de la Rosa said Congress’s resistance to approve the amendment to the current law stems from the lawmakers’ reluctance to be held accountable.
