Money laundering convict in Puerto Rican kingpin case files appeal

Santo Domino. – Money laundering convict Mary Peláez on Mondaychallenged the Supreme Court Criminal Chamber’s ruling rejecting her appeal,and asked to be declared not guilty in the case of the ring headed by PuertoRican kingpin Jose Figueroa Agosto.
Her lawyer Jose Rafael Ariza asked court justices Miriam German,Esther Agelán and Hirohito Reyes to revoke its decision and schedule a newtrial
The court set a hearing on the prosecution’s challenge forJune 3.
Also convicted in the case were Sammy Dauhajre, EddyBrito, Ivanovich Smester, Juan Jose Fernandez Ibarra, Sobeida Felix andMadeline Bernard Peña.
The court had lowered the original 15 and 12 year sentencesto seven and five years in prison.
