Bowing to pressure, embattled Dominican senator offers to come clean

Santo Domingo.- Embattled ruling PLD party senator Felix Bautista on Monday authorized the bicameral commission which investigates his asserts and the alleged contributions to Alejandro Toledo’s campaign in Peru, to probe all his personal and corporate bank accounts, and the taxes paid by him and his companies.

The development comes months after Bautista’s alleged link to Toledo surfaced, and mounting pressure for the lawmaker to come clean on his assets some reports place in the hundreds of millions of pesos.

"In the interest of this Bicameral Commission to establish the origin of my assets, I authorize you to request from local and foreign banks, all financial products related to me and my business, such as bank accounts, loans, transactions with credit cards, among others, " the senator said in a statement to the committee chaired by senator Prim Pujals.

He also authorized the Internal Taxes Agency to release his and his companies’ tax records.
