Leading newspaper takes Insurance Superintendent to court

Santo Domingo.- Newspaper Diario Libre on Tuesday filed suit against Insurance superintendent Euclides Gutiérrez Félix for the alleged violation of the law on free access to public information, for failing to disclose figures in the bankruptcy of the insurance company Segna S. A.

The team of lawyers of Diario Libre editor-in-chief Adriano Miguel Tejada, headed by Eduardo Jorge Prats, filed suit at the Administrative Superior Tribunal on Friday. It asks the court to "order the Insurance Superintendent, in his role as official liquidator of Segna, S. A., to immediate deliver all information requested by the plaintiffs, in the terms and rigor stated in the request."

Diario Libre submitted the original request for the information with the Superintendence on August 2, 2013, as stated in the free access to information law 200-04.
